Born Prince Rogers Nelson, Prince, is regarded as one of the greatest musicians of his generation. Born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he signed his first recording contract at just 19.
In 1984, his sixth album, Purple Rain, was recorded and was also the soundtrack to his film acting debut of the same name.
Purple Rain went on to spend six consecutive months at the top of the billboard 200 and won an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score.
The color purple has been irrevocably associated with Prince ever since.
On April 21st, 2016, Prince died of an accidental overdose at the age of 57. In 2018, the Pantone Color Institute and Prince’s estate created a custom color “Love Symbol #2” in his honor.
