Andy WARHOL.

Born Andrew Warhola, Andy Warhol was an American Multimedia artist, film director and producer who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as Pop Art.

His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, advertising and celebrity culture and his New York studio, The Factory, became a well-known gathering place that brought together distinguished intellectuals, drag queens, playwrights, celebrities and of course, wealthy patrons.

In the late 1960’s he also managed and produced the experimental rock band The Velvet Underground, fronted by Lou Reed, and founded Interview Magazine with British journalist John Wilcock, which was nicknamed "The Crystal Ball of Pop", as it featured interviews with celebrities, artists, musicians, and creative thinkers of the moment.

With the rise in reality television, social media and tabloid journalism, his prediction that “in the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes” has never been more true.

One such instance occurred at a book signing in 1985 when a woman seeking her own 15 minutes of fame, grabbed Andy’s infamous wig clean off his head. Despite saying “I don’t know what held me back from pushing her over the balcony”, Warhol seemed relatively unfazed and simply pulled-up his parka hood and continued signing.
